Alytaus Naujienos: How did Alytus overtake the Parlament?

2017 01 07

Saulė PINKEVIČIENĖ

"The turn of the year is an exciting time to bring about the wonders we are witnessing today," said prof. dr. Aldona Vilkelienė.
The body of the institution organized a Thanksgiving concert, which repeatedly said "thank you". Thanks are due to the members of the three charity clubs Rotary, Dzūkija LIONS and Zonta, to the city leaders and all the Alytus who have contributed, conceptually, deed and financially, to giving the Music School a concert piano. Although there are only a few such instruments in Lithuania at present (in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, the National Philharmonic Hall is preparing to purchase such instruments), according to music professionals, a quality instrument for a smaller town is not a luxury. It is hoped that its emergence will intensify Alytus's cultural life and help young music talents reach their professional heights.
Where they lead, on Wednesday evening, Alytus-based opera soloist Justina Gringytė, who was awarded the international title of the best young opera performer of the year in 2015, proved very clearly. She once again delighted the Poles with her talent at her native Music School, where she made her way to the world stage.
The word turned into a concert piano

"Six hundred students of Alytus Music School on the occasion of their 60th birthday deserve to have a high-quality, professional, basic concert instrument - the piano, which will serve for decades in teaching and concert activities," Juozas Cicėnas, president of Rotary Alytus, reminded his members came about a year ago.
There was much debate, comment, deliberation, sometimes even very tumultuous, until the Rotary, Zontos, Dzukija LIONS clubs decided that the eighth Christmas charity evening, Alytus 2016, would raise funds for a concert piano. The word turned into flesh and all it took was to say "thank you" to the many people who contributed to it.
The charity evening, held annually by members of the three Alytus clubs, attracted 18,000 people. euros. Companies, entrepreneurs and residents contributed to the purchase of the piano. Missing 22 thousand. On Christmas Eve, Alytus City Municipality, as well as the De Žavu Choir (led by Lilija Bernatavičienė and General Asta Pilypaitė), awarded a total of € 2 million.
"I thank the council members Lina Sosunoviciene, Gintare Rimkutė-Merčaitienė, Maris Grišmanauskas, who believed in this idea, helped to implement it jointly with the municipality and… bypass the Seimas, which will buy the concert piano," said Andrius Stasiukynas.
President of Zonta Onutė Klinavičienė also reminded that such special gifts are simply impossible without the good will of the people.
Piano LT, a piano selling company, has agreed to make a significant discount thanks to the efforts of the opera soloist from the Alytus J.Gringytė Charity and Support Foundation, which conquers the world stage.
A concert piano Schimmel was brought to Alytus Music School shortly before the big festivities by Dzūkija Construction, and was pushed through a second-floor window that had to be removed and the instrument drove straight to the stage.

Wishing even more "playing souls"

"A beautiful example of how much can be done by focusing," the city mayor Vytautas Grigaravičius talked about not only a specific gift - a concert piano, but also J.Gringytė's idea of establishing a charity and support fund to help students studying at Alytus Music School.
Currently, under the roof of this establishment, 580 Alytus musicians play various instruments, including a quarter of them playing the piano.
"Do you know the difference from a Zaporozhye to a toothpick?" dr. A.Vilkelienė.
She recalled that last year the school had won 131 different national and international competitions. Their opportunities for improvement will be further expanded, as children will be able to play a whole other level instrument that provides a different smoothness, harmony and harmony of musical phrases.
"Concert piano is an investment fifty years ahead," says the headmaster.
“Congratulations to the city - Alytus has a wonderful gift! You will see how the musical life will become more active as many performers will want to perform in Alytus. The reality is that there are many talented musicians in Lithuania who want to give concerts, but there are no instruments. The piano you have gives you the freedom to play music, rather than fighting acoustics and thinking about what a performer should do to make it sound better, "Veronica Kopjova, a Vienna-studying pianist, wanted to bring as many" playing souls " and for those talented musicians who aspire to professional heights, to be bold in their path of new opportunities.
It turns out that in international competitions young musicians play very good instruments and are even frightened and do not show their full potential simply because they have not played them so far.

The song was dedicated to Daddy's memory

Young piano musician Mantas Veselga (teacher-methodologist Lina Abromavičienė) and one of the two J.Gringytė Foundation performed piano presentation at the Music School together with professional pianist V.Kopjova, opera soloist J.Gringytė and her accompanist Milda Umbrusevičiūtė. Grigonis (violin, teacher-methodologist Rita Frendzelienė)

J.Gringytė dedicated one of her works to a. a. to my dad, who always came to listen to her performances in the same hall of the Music School. Justina graduated from the piano class, later studied vocal class at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, and graduated with a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music and Drama in London and a traineeship at the London National Opera. This summer he returned to Alytus for a short time to start a charity work here.
"I'm delighted that Justina's idea has united artists and entrepreneurs," said Robert Scharknick, a member of the Seimas, who said he would like to fulfill his daughter's request to test how the concert piano sounds. Dean Arūnas Užupis, who wanted the instrument to sound all over the sound - the lid lifted - literally and figuratively, also says it was secret.
